Do What Ernest Hemingway Would Do in Key West

One of the best things about staying in any one of the Key Wes notels or bed and breakfasts is the fresh fruit that is often served with your croissants and coffee in the morning. Grapefruit and oranges are plentiful in the Sunshine State and everywhere you go you will be served something with fresh orange or grapefruit juices Chances are that just anywhere that you stay in Key West will probably have its very own citrus tree flowering in its yard.  Even if you are camping or hiking in the woods you are likely to smell the orange trees growing wild.  These would be the untamed citrus grove orchards grown wild from farms that used to exist in Tampa and St. Petersburg.

Key West itself is a vibrant recreational and cultural area of Florida that its residents are well used to catering to tourists. The city itself is divided into three main areas – the Old Town Area, the Oceanside area and the Bayside area. The Old Town Area is filled with quaint colonial and Victorian style Key West hotels bed and breakfasts that also serve English teas in the afternoon. These “downtown” rooms are often well outfitted with televisions, Internet connections and telephones and are located close to five star restaurants and glamorous Tiki style bars.

If you stay in the Old Town Area of Key West you can investigate such interesting local features as the Ernest Hemingway Museum and the many hand made furniture shops that line the streets.  There are also lots of interesting golf courses in this area as well and just driving along the long causeways is a lot of fun.

The Oceanside area of Key west is closer to Smathers Beach, which is a popular beach that also features restaurants that serve cheap, yet superb seafood. The Oceanside area of Key West is one of the greatest places to stay in the world if you are interested in fly-fishing. Fisherman can catch blue marlin, sail fish, many different species of shark, as well as red snapper or grouper. The snorkeling in Key West is also fantastic and many excursions offer you the opportunity to swim with more than 200 kinds of tropical fish.  Bring your hip waders and just be prepared to march right into the ocean with your rod or hire a boat to keep you far out in the ocean to fish for Dorada, Tuna and other big catches – just like Ernest Hemingway.
