If you are taking a camping trip into the wild you might be thinking that you need a bit more on hand then some aluminum foil and you are right! However you should always bring aluminum oil. It is more portable if you take it off the role and fold it several times into a square and put it in a zip lock bag.
If you are setting out into the woods make sure you bring a cast-iron duth oven. This looks like an ordinary dutch oven but tit is a bit smaller and it has a handle. You can put it in an oven, on a gril or just stick it rightin the embers of the fire. You can also use the lid as a griddle. You fry chicken, make stew or boil egss in it – whatever you need to do. Anothr necessary tool that you will need isa six inch heavy carbon tool steel knife so that you can cut up food and kindling. You will also need a big fork that can do triple action as tongs, spatula or a whisk.
It helps to have two or three firestarter mini logs. Another necessary item is a hurricane lighter for starting fires. Three or four oack or hickory chunks are another nice addition asyou can throw them in your fire to add exgtra flavor to the food.
lso take a plastic container filled with kosher salt for seasoning. Salt can also be used to scrub pots in just the same way you use a cleanser.
Two thick kitchen towels should also be part of your camping cooking kit. They are of great use if you need them to pick up hot things. Line your cast-ron oven with these to protect the surface of the pot.
Make sure you have a light cup on hand and take some tea bags and packets of high-quulity instant coffee with you. Those Starbucks VIA instant coffee packets are ideal for taking out into the wild.
Don’t ever throw ouot those take out packets of soy sauce, ketchup, hot sauce and mustard. They are very useful and light to carry and can add a lot of flavor to whatever you are cooking on the campfire.
