The Best Steak Marinade

The Best Steak Marinade is actually probably your own concoction that is based the “Best Steak Marinade in Existence”, which is an allrecipes.com recipe.  However people add all kinds of variations to it in order to create their own version of the fantastic marinade.

The basic recipe is equal amounts (about a third of a cup) of soy sauce, olive oil, lemon juice and Worcestershire sauce.  You then add about a teaspoon of the following: garlic powder, dried basil, dried parsley, hot pepper sauce and dried minced garlic.

You put everything together in a blender and blend for thirty seconds until mixed. You then pour the sauce over the meat and then refrigerate, covered for up to eight hours.

There are all sorts of variations to this. Some people like to add the following:  whiskey, maple syrup, red wine, dried onion flakes, garlic paste, dried dill, mustard, a bit of marmalade, Thai chili sauce, salsa verde or chipotle sauce.  However almost everyone on the Internet who marinades meat says this is the absolute best.

If you want to be traditional and turn out that Albertan or Texan style thick juicy barbecue steak than just give the meat the classic Salt and Pepper Steak Rub.  This is coriander seeds, black peppercorns, coarse salt and dehydrated minced garlic.  You toast the coriander and black peppercorns, then combine them with the other ingredients and grind till fine in a Magic Bullet or coffee grinder.

Another nice flavor is smoky tomato sauce. This is made from vegetable oil, onion, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, molasses, chipotle peppers, packed brown sugar, Dijon mustard, liquid smoke and bottled strained tomatoes, (sometimes old as passata).  Blend together and brush on the meat while cooking for a luscious, moist and slightly Italian barbecued taste treat.

Another great combination is chili and orange together. Combine orange juice, orange rind, tomato paste and chili powder together and soak your meat into it for a few hours before throwing it all on the grill.

If you like it hot then make an Adobo marinade from orange juice, lime rind, lime juice, garlic, jalapeno pepper, dried oregano and ground cumin.

If you love Moroccan smile food you will like this recipe that combines olive oil, cumin, paprika, sugar, lemon juice, minced garlic, salt, pepper and cinnamon.  Stir everything together in a small bowl and then coat the meat with the sauce.  Marinate it for about four hours and then throw it on the grill. Delicious!
