Savannah Georgia’s Ghosts and Fried Green Tomatoes

Savannah Georgia is one of the oldest cities in the United States and the fact it has been preserved so well makes it seem like it hologram from back in time. The same goes for Savannah bed and breakfasts, many of which are on old cotton and pecan plantations.  This is a very spooky place with very old buildings. If you go to a pub here try and visit the basement and be sure to turn on your night vision camera. You will probably catch all kinds of ghosts on your camera.

The city’s main feature is the spooky Bonaventure cemetery, ancient Old Fort Jackson and the Ships of the Sea Maritimes Museum. You will be surrounded by even more antiquities if you visit the Andrew Lowe House, the Cathedral of John the Baptist and Juliette Gordon Lowe’s birthplace. It is also well worth it to take a stroll through the city to the older parts of the piers and docks.  There are amazing old boats bobbing on ancient wooden piers; just be careful to visit these more run-down areas in Savannah before dark as like any big city, the most crime-ridden place is by the docks.

Other great attractions here are the Ghosts of Savannah Tour, Tours by Trolley Car and you can get on a ship to go on a Dolphin watching excursion.  If you go in the summer you can also book a boat to go diving among old wrecks or deep-sea fishing..

Another great reason to go is to sample all of the different rustic versions of Fried Green Tomatoes that comes up.  This type of cuisine served up here is also known as “Georgia coastal” or “plantation country cuisine.”  One of the most famous of these restaurants is The Lady & Sons Restaurant, which has been thought to influence the cooking of many Iron Chefs in America. The city also features several excellent Italian restaurants including Girabaldi’s and Vinnie Van Go-Gos.  The food here is usually of the shrimp and gumbo variety even if it is served up on something as exotic as angel pasta. Be sure to finish all of this off with a giant piece of delicious pecan pie.  To find the best pecan pie, however, take at trip inland to the countryside and stay in a more rural bed and breakfast.   Everyone in Georgia has their own version of a pecan pie and most of them are incredibly delicious!
